다시 윈도우

어제 인터넷 가입 변경을 위해서 SK브로드밴드에서 다녀갔다.
동네유선에서 SK로 인터넷선을 변경했는데(하이컴이라는 회사가 우리를 SK로 넘겼다.)
작업을 하고 난 후에 갑자기 우분투를 설치한 컴퓨터 2대에서 유선, 무선 인터넷이 안되는 것이다.
노트북에 윈도우7을 설치해 놓아서 그걸로 인터넷이 되는지 확인하고 기사는 가 버렸는데 말이다.
이런 젠장 아무리 해도 안된다. 그래서 혹시나 하고 윈도우를 설치했더니 인터넷이 된다.
뭘까? 결국 다시 윈도우로 돌아왔다는 슬픈 이야기. ㅠ.ㅠ

리눅스 민트 8 (Helena) 설치

이제 별 ...
쿠분투 설치해서 쓰다가 다시 우분투로 돌아온지 한 달도 안 되어서
또다시 무슨 리눅스 민트를 설치한다고...

아무래도 나는 병인 것 같다.
근데 설치해 보니(예전에 6 버전을 설치했던 경험이 있는데) 쓰기 괜찮은 것 같다.
일단 좀 밀어보려고 생각 중입니다.



Based on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, Linux 2.6.31, Gnome 2.28 and Xorg 7.4, Linux Mint 8 "Helena" features a lot of improvements and the latest software from the Open Source World.

우분투 9.10을 기본으로 만들어졌더군요. 9.04 인줄 알았는데.

리눅스? 뭐가 이리 많어!

리눅스는 수많은 개발자가 함께 만들기 때문에 버전이 수도 없이 많지만 기본 커널은 같은 것을 쓴다.
여러 개발자의 의견을 종합한 뒤 리누스 토발즈가 관리하기 때문이다.
배포판은 이 커널에 여러 가지 응용 프로그램을 쓸 수 있게 묶어놓은 것이다.
만든 사람과 회사에 따라 이름과 기능도 조금씩 다르다.
리눅스를 쓰기 전에 먼저 해야할 일은 배포판을 고르는 것이다.

우분투 www.ubuntu.com
데비안 GUN/Linux를 기반으로 하기 때문에 패키지 관리 시스템이 뛰어나다.
프로그램 설치가 대부분 자동이고 데스크톱에서 좀더 쉽게 리눅스를 쓸 수 있다.
한국 리눅스 사용자 중 대부분이 우분투를 사용하고 있으며 커뮤니티 활동이 가장 활성화 되어 있다.
현재 버전은 8.10까지 나와 있다.

아시아눅스 www.asianux.co.kr
아시아눅스는 한국, 중국, 일본, 베트남 등 아시아 4개국이 중심이 되어 아시아에 적합한 리눅스를 목표로 한 배포판이다. 한글과 컴퓨터사에서 관리하고 있다.

멘드리바 www.mandriva.com
RPM을 기반으로 프랑스의배포본이다.
스카이프, 캐스퍼스카이, 안티바이러스, 데스크톱 DVD 플레이어, 뮤직 플레이어, 게임, 가상소포트웨어, 개인용 방화벽 등이 포함된다.

데비안 www.debian.org
GNU 프로젝트에 가장 어울리는 배포판이다.
여러 리눅스 중에서도 '프리 소프트웨어' 이념이 가장 많이 담겨 있어서다.
다른 배포본보다 오류 수정이 빠른 것이 특정이다.

젠투 www.gentoo.org
FreeBSD의 포트 시스템과 비슷한 '포티지 시스템'을 적용해 이용자가 원하기만 하면
밑바닥부터 모든 것을 최적화해서 쓸 수 있게 해준다.
하지만 소프트웨어를 설치하는 데 시간이 많이 걸린다.

페도라 fedora.redhat.com
운영체제의 자유를 중요시하고, 침해받을 여지가 있는 소프트웨어는 탑재하지 않는다.
진보적 성향이ㅕ 새 기술을 빨리도입하는 게 특징이다.

수세 www.navell.com/linux
독일을 중심으로 유럽에서 많이 쓰인다.
수세 리눅스는  rpm(소프트웨어 피키지 관리) 패키지 시스템을 쓴다.
윈도의 제어판과 같은 기능을 하는 'YaST' 라는 셋업 툴을 가져 설정이 쉽다.
예전부터 사용으로 판매되었기 때문에 그만큼 완성도가 높다.
open suse는 무료다.

공짜 운영체제의 대표 리눅스 - 리눅스의 시작은?

'세상에 운영체제는 윈도우뿐이다' 라는 말이 어색하지 않을 정도로 데스크톱 PC는 윈도우를 많이 쓴다.
독점이라고 할 정도지만 뾰족한 대안이 없다.
그나마 윈도우에 대항할 운영체제로 리눅스가 꼽힌다.
리눅스 써보기 전에 리눅스가 무엇인지 공부하자.

리눅스의 시작은?

리눅스를 이해하려면 먼저 그 역사를 알아야한다.
윈도우처럼 특정 회사가 만든 것이 아니고 전세계 개발자들이 함께 만들어낸 리눅스는
'리누스 토발스' 라는 대학생이 1991년 10월에 'Minix 사용자 그룹'에서 공개한 리눅스 0.02가 시작이다.
물론 처음부터 운영체제의 모습을 갖춘 것은 아니었다.
파일 시스템과 드라이버, 그리고 bash('Boume again sheell'의 약자로 개발된 Boume shell이 변화된 쉘이다. 리눅스에서 가장 많이 쓰는 쉘이며 GNU 프로젝트로 만들어지고 배포된다. 쉘은 이용자가 명령을 입력할 수 있는 작업상태다. 입력한 명령을 기계어로 바꾸어 커널로 전달한다.), gcc('GNU C Compiler'의 약자로 GNU  프로젝트로 개발된 C 컴파일러다.) 등을 쓸 수 있는 수준이었지만 이 간단한 운영체제는 세계의 많은 프로그램 개발자들의 관심을 끌었다. 소스가 공개되어 누구나 맘대로 고칠 수 있어 개발에 참여하는 이가 많아졌다.

리눅스가 본격적으로 발전한 것은 자유소프트웨어재단(free soff foundation)의 회장 '리차드 스톨만' 덕이다.
스톨만은 소프트웨어의 공유와 배포를 주장하여, GNU('GNU's Not Unix'의 약자로 "GNU는 유닉스가 아니다. 유닉스 같은 OS를 만들고 싶지만 유닉스는 아니다"는 뜻이다. 소프트웨어는 기본적으로 초기 개발자가 모르는 버그들이 있을 수 있으므로 다른 개발자들이 그 소스를 보고 좀 더 나은 소프트웨어를 만들고 그것을 모든 사람이 자유롭게 나눠 쓰자는 것이 GNU 프로젝트의 목적이다.) 프로젝트를 제시했다.
GNU에 기반을 두고 리눅스 버전 0.1이 완성되었다. 이때가 1991년 11월이다.
리눅스 0.1은 PC에서 멀티태스킹을 할 수 있는 최초의 운영체제이며 인텔, 알파, 썬, 스팍 등 여러 플랫폼으로 쉽게 전환된다. IBM 호환 기종에서만 쓸 수 있는 윈도우와 가장 큰 차이다.

1994년에 네트워크를 지원하는 버전 1.0이 발표되면서 운영체제의 모습을 갖추게 된다.
'밥 영'과 '마크 유잉'은 레드햇사를 만들고 누구나 쉽게 설치할 수 있게 구성한 버전을 배포해 리눅스가널리 퍼지게 됐다. 1998년 새로운 버전의 리눅스를 테스트하려고 1만여 명의 개발자들이 참여하면서 전문가들 사이에서는
윈도우나 유닉스에 뒤지지 않는 운영체제로 자리 잡았다.
2000년부터 대형 IT 업체가 본격적으로 리눅스 개발에 동참하면서 여러 가지 배포판이 생기고,
리눅스에서 쓸 수 있는 응용 프로그램들도 많이 나오기 시작했다.
